We're really happy to see that you seem to like our new column "Discover the blog" and we also love the fact that we can introduce a lot of great national and international bloggers to you. So today we want to put the lovely Juliana from the fashion and lifestyle blog JULIANA CHOW in the spotlight:
Please introduce yourself:
I am Juliana, and I run the fashion and lifestyle blog JULIANACHOW.com where I share my tips on how to stand out from the crowd, stay confident, curious and live 'healthily' ever after. I have a passion for anything fashion, healthy lifestyle and beauty related. I am based in Copenhagen, and I love traveling to experience different cultures and forms of fashion.
What was the deciding reason for you to start a fashion and lifestyle blog?
I started my blog in 2011 when I was only 14. Back then, I had problems fitting in with the rest of the girls at school, which is why I needed a place where
I could be myself and express my love for fashion. When I went into high school to study International Business, things got a lot better, and soon I did not even have time to focus on my blog, because I was super ambitious with my studies and I had tons of fun with my friends.I graduated the summer of 2015, and I quickly found that I needed to find my zen again, after being in school all my life. Deep down, I knew I was not done with blogging, which is why I decided to pursue the potentials of my blog and see where it would go from there.
What would you like to achieve with your blog (like within the next five years)?
My goals that I am constantly working on along the way is to keep improving in whatever I am doing and to keep providing awesome, creative content to my readers. I like to keep my readers guessing what comes next. I also want to grow my audience, to be able to share my passions with more people, and
I want to meet more bloggers from around the world. Lastly, I want to travel more than what I already do at the moment. This season I attended Copenhagen Fashion Week, and it was so much fun. It would be amazing to experience fashion weeks in other fashion capitals around the world.
Do you have a role model? What do you especially like about her/him?
I get inspired my many strong female characters every single day. One role model that has always stood out to me is, YouTuber and entrepreneur, Michelle Phan, as I have followed her journey for many years now. I love how she keeps innovative and creative with everything that she is doing. I think that is so special, and I really admire her for that. In 2014, when I was interning at CNN International, I was talking to a colleague about Asian beauty trends, I men-
tioned Michelle, because she is an expert when it comes to that, and we actually ended up interviewing her, which was insane. Who can say they have interviewed one of their biggest role models? Apparently me, and it was such an incredible experience.
Tell us a bit about your life besides blogging (like hobbies).
Today, blogging takes up most of my time, but when I am not typing insanely on my computer, I like to do activities such as hot yoga and pilates. I also enjoy reading science fiction novels, playing piano and experimenting with cooking healthy meals that I find on Pinterest.
Your favourite trend/trend piece for 2016?
Since the start of this year, I have been obsessed with PANTONE's Color Of The Year 2016. For the first time ever PANTONE has launched two shades as their yearly color; a rose pink and a purple-blue shade. I love the colors, which is why I incorporated the colors into my Instagram feed for a whole month. It was a fun project, and a way of expressing my love for colors online. I think we are going to see the colors incorporated in lots of different
ways fashion-wise this year.
Which five pieces are a MUST-HAVE in your closet?
Since it is very cold at the moment my current must-haves are: over the knee boots, a big faux fur coat, a mini backpack, a red party dress and a sleek turtleneck sweater.
Tell us your personal fashion-faux pas or your fashion no-go!
The Birkenstocks sandals that were so popular this past summer are definitely my number one fashion no-go.
What do you think about the progress of the national/international blogger scene?
I think a lot of local and national bloggers are beginning to realize that not only their city or country is interested in their content, but the whole world can eventually become their audience. It is wonderful how the blogger scene is becoming more intervened, and how it brings bloggers from all over the world together. We as bloggers are given a much bigger voice within the fashion industry, to a point where bloggers are the ones choosing upcoming
trends and, in a way, out ruling traditional magazines. It is crazy how technology can affect industries with such a large impact. Social media is also becoming huge, to a point where anybody can express their creativity and gain lots of followers without having to be a celebrity in the first place. Social media is soon creating a whole new industry where it is possible to make a living off of social media posts. That is something that we have never seen before, and I am super excited to see what the future holds.
Last but not least: Do you have any advice or tips for blogger newbies?
1. Think and dream big. Your blog does not only have to have ten views a week - it can become so much more if you dare to put enough effort into it.
2. Be patience, because establishing a successful blog usually does not happen overnight. Try to enjoy the process, and small successful moments.
3. Think outside the box and beyond the norms. Find your own voice and look past what everyone else is doing. Experiment with different approaches
and find what works best for you, and what can help your readers the most.
